Microsoft has open-sourced SandDance, a data visualization tool that allows users to create 2D and 3D visualizations. Rather than showing the sum of data points, SandDance represents each row in a dataset as an individual unit in visualizations, providing users the ability to color and filter units into different areas of the screen. As a result, visualizations such as bar charts or stack charts consist of their individual stacked or sorted data points. These types of visualizations can help users find outliers and clusters within their data that are not visible with aggregated data visualizations.
