Maintaining national security is a priority for government departments and protecting public-sector information is a key part of that objective. Government departments store masses of critical sensitive data. But if it were to fall into the wrong hands not only would national security be in jeopardy but public trust in the government’s ability to protect its citizens would be lost. It is, therefore, vital that personally identifiable information (PII) regardless of its location, is always being secured.
